WINTER WONDERLAND TOUR – JEFF STOCKWELL AND WORAPOJ BOONNIM “NOTE” IN BARCELONA, DAY 3. A “Fine” day in more ways than one

Conference Studios Barcelona awoke to the sound of the pitter-patter of rain on the rooftop. The crew stared out of the window in frustration. Another day of grey beckoned, an overcast and anxious wait for moments of hope.

Two of the crew decided to brace the cold and wet morning and search for a spot that had been recommended to them. As they walked, hoods up, hands in pockets, a ray of light hit the ground in front of them. They looked up in surprised. Behind the grey expanse of sky the sun was prevailing…

Running home as fast as their legs could carry them they shot into the appartment, barely able to breathe from their exhertions. Within moments camera equipment was prepared, skates laced, and the crew was on the streets, warm and optimistic at last.

The day ran as smoothly as the blue skies and bright sun would allow, and on untill the night, with flashes flashing and cameras rolling.

The only thing that could put a downer on an otherwise perfectly productive day is Barcelona’s new Zero Tollerance policy on all things that make life good, as the police proceeded to fine us. Thank you, Mr. Policeman, you have done a great job stopping a dangerous crime, and that’s what we pay you for! Good on you, you can sleep safely at night knowing theres no rollerbladers skating through your city.

Winter Wonderland Tour – Jeff Stockwell and Worapoj Boonnim “Note” in Barcelona, Day 2.

“The rain in Spain falls mainly…well everywhere” Rain, rain, rain. We sat staring out of the window hoping for a breach in the clouds. Woorapoj, wrapped in a sheet and huddled close to the heater wondered if this weather was real, “You guys really skate in cold weather like this?”

Jeff shook his head and stared at the floor. All these Barcelona spots waiting for us, taunting us through the drizzle rarely associated with the city known as the European California.

Just as our final hopes began to die away, the rain stopped. We anxiously waited by the window, watching the street tiles dry, one by one almost. This was going to take forever. Screw it, we’re going out there and we don’t care how wet it is.

2 hours later the rain had started up again, but riders and media alike had battled the wet and handled busines.

Mañana es otro dia!

Thanks also to Tony and Inercia for a little edit they put together of Jeff during our little stop at their store yesterday. This is Jeff warming up as we were putting on our skates, and before Woorapoj had finished putting his skates on it had already begun to rain. Thats how fast it is to put your Xsjado’s on!!

VII Classic USD Combination. My new setup.

Being in contact with skaters all year round, travelling to contests and watching videos, I have become more and more intreagued by the French skaters who skate the VII USD skate with Classic Throne soulplates. All of them tell me that the setup skates incredibly well, going so far as to say it is the best setup they have ever skated.

I believe Adrien Anne was the first to build this setup or perhaps Kenneth Dedeu in Knet’s Customs, and since then Roman Abrate, Allan Beulieu, Adrien Clairaz and more have all told me about the benefits of this skate. After watching some of these riders skate them at the Bulle Contest in Switzerland, I realised that I had wanted to try this skate for a while.

The thing is I have always been immensely frustrated at being unable to skate Classic Thrones, due to them not fitting my feet. A size 10 is too big, and a size 9 is too small. I skated the VII Pianowski USD skate a while back ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcwUdd-Uh5c ) and I found them to be the most comfortable skate ever. I skated them in a size 9US and I am really a 9.5, but they fit so snug.

So at last I have a chance to try the closest I can get to a Classic Throne. The skate has absolutely great flex, and is really light. In fact I have always been a fan of this shell. It is also really well priced, with great specs, including a full flat setup and really high quality liners, anti-shock and parts.

Right now I have torn my calf muscle, but once I have recovered I will make an edit of my first day skating them, and let you know how I get on.

For now, here are the pics of the setup I have put together. All these parts are on sale now. As Usual I am going for a Type M Kizer frame, the frame I have sworn by for 5 years or so, thanks to its speed and reliablility, and the all new, US poured UC Demetrios George pro-wheels. Those who have tried these new US poured wheels will know how far ahead they really are in terms of quality and speed.
