Dominic Sagona interview – The road to recovery.

Rollerblading simply wouldn’t be as cool as it is if Dominic Sagona had never picked up skates. Frequently described as the most stylish rollerblader in the history of rollerblading, he never ceases to create addiction to his skating through his edits and pictures and as rollerbladers, we simply can’t get enough Sagona. Much to our pleasure he continues to produce, and this year has been a strong year for him. Despite serious injury he is still able to release an 8 page interview in the prestigious Be-mag, as well as an interview in The Conference Mag. 2, coming soon. As if that wasn’t enough, the next few weeks will see more Sagona action on multiple media platforms. His stylish skating is also reflected in his often inspiring, and often dark personality. His talent for skating is reflected in his pumping, deep and dark music productions, and his DJ skills are a truly an experience to behold. His power over the public whether in skating or in music are almost unrivaled, and for this reason alone he is destined for greatness.
Here at www.theconference.org we catch up on Dom as he recovers from injury.
OB: Dom, you just did a Tour as well as 2 full profiles in Be-Mag and The Conference Mag, what inspires you to be at the forefront of skate media at such a high level after so many years?
DS: You know I never really thought about it so much in that way. It’s more of something that I think I automatically do. I’ve been skating for about 17 years, 10 of which I’ve been actively perusing exposure within the skate industry. I think that it’s something that’s become more automatic than anything. It’s what I do, what I know how to do.
OB: Do you see exposure cooling down now because of your injury, or is there more coverage planned this year?
DS: Exposure is a fickle thing. Sometimes you have to chase it, and sometimes it finds you. I’ve had a lot going on this year due to both.
I’ve got some new stuff coming out in our second issue of the Conference Mag (with a cover shot too, right?!), a new BHC video profile hopefully out for holiday, I’ve just sent a photo bundle off to the guys at SHOCK on stabyourselfintheface.com, a photo bundle to ONE for some online stuff, and am doing a review thing on some of my recent music releases on FRENCHY FRIES at www.frenchyfries.fr, and I also just had a review on a big electro/dubstep blog called FeedingtheFrenzy.com, so keep your eyes peeled for tons of new photos and some footy by holiday hopefully.

OB: You recently had a really bad fall, with long term repercussions. How will that affect your future in rollerblading? Are you more excited to get healed or are you in a more negative mind set?
DS: I’ve had a lot of bad falls. This will be my 5th surgery do to a professional skating related accident/fall. As with anything like this, it can prove to be very discouraging and scary at times, but on the flip it can give you time to kind of re-evaluate everything and set your mind state up for your next move sorta. You just gotta be strong enough to bounce back.
OB: That’s great to hear. About your music, you recently changed your artistic name and have a number of releases that have dropped or are about to drop, right? Tell us about this.
DS: a well, when I’m not skating or doing the girlfriend/life thing, I spend most of my time writing and working on music. I have two singles out this month under my drum and bass artist moniker ‘BLE3K’, There is one on ONSET AUDIO called ‘End of Atlas’ which is a single, and a second on an EP on ‘DANGEROUS NEW AGE’ recordings called ‘PROPHECIES’. Both are heavy Nuerofunk influenced dancefloor drum and bass tracks, so if you’re into that sorta sound then you know what it’s all about. Check out MYSPACE.COM/BLE3KAUDIO.

OB: How do you balance skating and music? Do you feel they are related or do they offer you completely different experiences?
DS: I balance them between injuries! LOL.
They are both different outlets. After I don’t skate for a while I get an itch to skate and it’s just a balance I need in my life. Other things are better when I am skating, and the same works with music. They are both like therapy to me in a way.
OB: Anything else you want to be heard?
DS: Watch out for the Conference Mag. and new BHC video! Shouts to Joey, check the new heat from Casualty, www.casualtykillers.com . Find me on myspace.com/dominicsagona and myspace.com/ble3kaudio
